Ecole Pailles en Queue is located at the entrance to the fishing village of Grand Gaube and welcomes young people not only from the village but from as far afield as Poudre d'Or and Grand Bay.
Like other remedial education centres that LUX* Resorts& Hotels supports, it is a member of the Adolescent Non-Formal Education Network (ANFEN). All the network’s centres benefit from the support of a psychologist and an educationalist specialised in the needs of school drop-outs.
The youngsters, aged between 11 and 17, most of whom have failed to obtain a Certificate of Primary Education, spend three to four years at Paille en Queue. Opened in 2000, it is a small school handling up to 45 pupils in total.
As well as helping to educate such youngsters, since 2011 the school also runs a project for some 50 pupils aged between 6 and 9, who come to the centre after school hours, the idea being to identify those with learning difficulties – for whatever reason – as early as possible.
External evaluation suggests that the School has achieved a considerable amount of success with many former participants now working regularly, particularly in the construction industry and in the hotel sector – including at LUX* Grand Gaube.
