It was set up in 1989 to help street children regain their self-esteem and become useful citizens – to give them a better chance of enjoying life. It concentrates on providing remedial education, as well as on developing professional skills. It also organises outings and holiday camps. Some of the youngsters have managed to obtain their Certificates of Primary Education and go on to follow training courses sponsored by the European Development Fund.
The beneficiaries are aged between 11 and 18, mostly from the area around Chemin Grenier, but some come from as far as Mahebourg and Black River.
Through the IBL Foundation, LUX* Resorts & Hotels helped fund the construction of a building, completed in 2010, to house the Centre’s activities and, since then, has continued to help with the provision of educational material.
